What is Antivirus
Antivirus software analyses all the files on your computer by looking for the signatures of viruses. If your antivirus software finds a virus it will quarantine it and either remove the virus by itself or show a dialogue box asking you to confirm that you want to remove the virus.
It is extremely important to keep your antivirus software up to date as new virus signatures are being added all the time.
You should develop a routine to scan your entire computer on a regular basis as well as checking all email attachments and any discs you haven't used before. Some emails can also contain links that actually release or download viruses so you should be careful when receiving emails from unknown sources. The rule " if in doubt - delete" is an excellent one
